Is Divvi free?

Free to download and free to use, with banner ads. A one-time $19.99 purchase removes them — there’s no subscription, and no feature is locked behind it. Divvi doesn’t process payments either: you work out who owes who here, then settle up however you already do.

Do my friends need to sign up?

No. That’s the whole point. You create the split, add the expenses, and share a receipt image. Your friends see what they owe — no account, no app, no ‘accept this invite’ screen. Just the numbers. Only the person doing the splitting needs Divvi.

How does the expense splitting work?

Add your group by name (just first names are fine). Log who paid for what and how to split it — equally, by exact amounts, or by percentage. Divvi works out the fewest payments needed to settle everyone up, even if ten people paid for different things. Share the receipt and you’re done.

Can I split expenses for a group trip?

That’s what we built it for. Add expenses as the trip happens — dinners, the rental car, groceries, the museum tickets nobody agreed to. At the end, Divvi tells each person exactly one amount to pay and who to pay it to. No spreadsheet. No group-chat math.

What’s the difference between Divvi and Splitwise?

Splitwise wants everyone in the group to have an account. Divvi needs one person with an iPhone and no accounts at all — you add the expenses and share a receipt image, so nobody else installs or signs up for anything. The honest tradeoffs: Splitwise runs on Android too, and it has receipt scanning and running balances that Divvi doesn’t.

Is my data secure?

Your splits are stored on your iPhone and nowhere else — Divvi runs no servers of its own, so there is no database of your expenses anywhere to breach. If you switch on iCloud sync, it uses your own private iCloud database, the same storage behind apps like Notes; the developer has no access to it. Divvi never sees or stores bank details, because it never handles money.

Can I use Divvi without downloading an app?

The person doing the splitting does need it — Divvi is an iPhone app. Everyone else doesn’t: they get a receipt image in whatever chat app you already use, with no download and no account. So it’s one install for the group, not one each.

What currencies does Divvi support?

Divvi supports multiple currencies, which is useful on international trips where expenses land in different denominations.

How is Divvi different from just using Venmo?

Venmo sends money. Divvi figures out who owes whom. Use Divvi to calculate the split, then Venmo (or any payment method) to settle up.

Can I split unequally (not 50/50)?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Choose exactly who each expense should be split between. If only three of five people went to dinner, only those three share that bill.
